Roots of Action engages parents, schools, and communities as advocates for positive youth development.

Roots of Action provides research-based resources on fostering positive youth development to over two million parents, schools, and communities annually. Our framework, The Compass Advantage, was created by Dr. Marilyn Price-Mitchell, developmental psychologist and researcher. It reflects an integrative approach to nurturing a child’s mind, body, heart, and spirit. It suggests children need an interconnected group of eight core abilities to thrive in an ever-increasingly complex society. Offering a blend of stories and insights from multidisciplinary research, articles are written and categorized in support of the compass abilities: Empathy, Curiosity, Sociability, Resilience, Self-Awareness, Integrity, Resourcefulness, and Creativity.

Our Community Promise is a research-based, frame-ready document that states a community's intention to support youth and their healthy development through their words and actions. It is linked to young people's I Have a Dream statement and shows how The Compass Advantage is nurtured by schools and programs.
